For All “Who Fight For It”
Almost forty years ago, in Anaheim, Calif., there was an organization called “Your Heritage Protection Association”. Their goal was to educate the citizens of this great country about the Constitutional benefits that come with living in America.
At the beginning of each meeting, they always recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and added this tag at the end;
“With liberty and justice for all ‘WHO FIGHT FOR IT‘”.
The meaning here, I think is quite obvious. “If you don’t fight to keep your liberty, you will surely lose it”. This is a quote from one of my earlier writings, and I believe it wholeheartedly. Our Founding Fathers knew this, and that’s why they put certain protections into the Constitution. Things like the First and Second Amendments, which are in jeopardy today.
The majority of America, I believe, has assumed the rights will be there forever, and don’t think of ever losing them. They are just taken for granted. The younger generations don’t seem to understand how our Liberty was won, and what it has taken to keep it for all these years.
When you look at the history of America, you will see wars fought and great numbers of lives lost to keep this country as free as it is.
I do realize this blog post will be seen by people in other countries, but just think of how free we have been in America compared to many other nations without the freedoms we enjoy. These are my thoughts today as I sit and reflect. I am a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, and I’ll bet there are more vets out there that will read this. I would truly like to know how my readers feel about this. If you would, please, just leave an “agree” or “disagree” in the comments box. I do appreciate all the response I can get. Thank you for being here.
